For those who don’t know, I’ve struggled with mental health issues since I was a kid and have been on different medications for that long. I’ve pretty much been put on everything. Sometimes I don’t like to talk about it much because of how people can be so judgmental ๐. I guess I wanted to give a bit of an update about what’s going on now.
For the past few weeks, my mania has gotten worse and it’s been a nightmare to deal with. I was sleeping only a few hours a night and felt like crap ๐. My psychiatrist put me on Vraylar ๐ and it’s starting to improve. I’m able to sleep more now and have calmed down a bit.๐ฎโ๐จ. I’m not sure what triggered all of that but sometimes an illness (I have several) can just ramp up out of nowhere. My depression hasn’t been as bad but there’s still some of it there. My psychiatrist hasn’t increased the dose yet because I was having some side effects that seem to be lessening now. He wanted to wait another month until my next appointment to see if the side effects got better before discussing an increase. I’m very sensitive to medications. A lot of them unfortunately make me sick. It’s just been a lot of trial and error. I just try to take one day at a time.
I was in therapy for awhile, but it didn’t work out. I’ve seen many therapists throughout my life and it doesn’t seem to help much. I also don’t seem to get along well with them. I don’t know if it’s because of my Autism or what. It just don’t work. I guess it’s not for everyone ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ.
Oh, reading this honestly felt a lot like listening to someone I love dearly talk about their own quiet, daily battles. Dealing with severe mania, sleep issues, and the endless trial-and-error of finding the right medication is so exhausting, especially while managing multiple conditions.
I am so, so glad you are getting relief and some sleep. And please don’t carry any guilt about therapy not working out; finding the right fit can be so hard.
Sending you so much warmth and grace. You are doing the best you can, and you’re never alone in this. ๐
Thank you ๐
It sounds like the last few weeks have been especially difficult, so Iโm glad to hear that things are starting to improve and youโre getting more sleep. I appreciate you sharing such a personal update because mental health can be difficult to talk about when people are judgmental. Hopefully the medication side effects continue to ease and things become more manageable before your next appointment.
It’s better, but not completely but I wouldn’t expect it to be.
